Ayo Olopon
Zion Handcarved Solid Wood Ayo Game Board and Seeds. (African Game)
Ayo Olopon is a game that involves careful strategy and planning, as players aim to capture more seeds than their opponent by moving seeds around the board. The game is played by two people, taking turns in a counterclockwise direction. At the beginning of the game, four seeds are placed in each of the 12 holes on the board. Players are only allowed to move seeds from the holes on their side, except when they are capturing seeds from the other side.
During a turn, a player picks up all the seeds from any one of their holes and distributes them counterclockwise, dropping one seed per hole, while skipping the hole they started from. If the last seed lands in an opponent’s hole and this makes it the 2nd or 3rd seed in that hole, the player captures and removes those seeds from the opponent’s side. The game continues until all seeds are captured or no further moves can be made. The winner is the player who captures the most seeds by the end of the game.
